With the summer season approaching, we need to make a number of changes to our lives. One such change is in our skincare routine. Now, we need to take a bit more care of the skin due to more exposure to the sun rays. A sunscreen serves the purpose of combating the sun’s rays. The ultraviolet rays of the sun can even cause skin cancer. Sunscreens can protect you from all these consequences and keep your skin healthy and glowing. There are various options available when it comes to choosing sunscreen. In this blog, Rubina Ratnakar lists some important points you need to consider while choosing sunscreen.
The first thing you need to consider is the duration and application of the sunscreen. Are you going to wear sunscreen every day? Are you going to the beach and need sunscreen for the holiday season only? Are you a sportsperson that needs to protect his/her skin from the sun while playing? This will help you in choosing a suitable sunscreen for you.
The next thing you need to look for is the SPF factor of the sunscreen. It is advised to use sunscreen with at least SPF 30. SPF is a factor that tells us how well the sunscreen can block the UVB rays of the sun. A sunscreen with SPF 15 will block around 90 to 93 percent of the rays, whereas sunscreen with SPF 30 can block 97 percent of the harmful rays.
Do not choose sunscreen before considering your skin type. A sunscreen will act differently on dry skin, normal skin, and oily skin. If you have dry skin, you should choose a sunscreen that contains moisturizing and hydrating ingredients as well. If you have oily skin, do not choose sunscreen that can enhance the sebum production in your skin.
There are many types of sunscreens available in the market. They are namely gel, spray, or a stick. Choose the one which you think is convenient.
